25/10/1994 (from the London Telegraph, 1994) The Clinton Administration is pushing for a $2.3 billion project at LLNL to develop a laser fusion facility. The facility will take up 2 football fields, and consist of 192 lasers, which will be used for ICF experiments. Hazel O'Leary says: "Frankly I do not believe this is a threat to non- proliferation. It ensures the integrity of the US nuclear arsenal without full scale underground nuclear tests. This answers the question of maintaining our core competence."
